Sermon Notes

1 John 4:19-21
We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

1. God supernaturally loves you

2. Love others from the overflow of your love for God

The true Christian life is a love relationship with God

Next Steps

  • Today I put my faith in Christ Jesus to be my Savior and Lord
  • I commit to show God’s supernatural love to others this week
  • Pray that I can better understand and live in God’s overwhelming, supernatural love for me

Deep Dive

  1. Read 1 John 4:10. Why is it important to see God’s love for us as the basis for our love for God?
  2. If someone told you they loved God but not the church, how would you respond? Is this even possible? (See Ephesians 5:25-27)
  3. What do you identify as threats to you demonstrating God’s supernatural love to others? What truths from Scripture can you use to fight against those threats/lies?

Springboard

  1. What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
  2. Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and discuss why it matters that God is the author of the Bible.
  3. How can we hold each other accountable to be more disciplined in our Bible study?
