At the End of Your Rope: Trusting Jesus for Healing and Restoration
Desperate times call for desperate measures. You are familiar with this phrase when it’s time to grind it out or when you refuse to take no for an answer. But when you are truly desperate and have no other options, a person will do just about anything to survive. When we read Mark 5:21-43, we read two stories of desperation. One is a person of position who has likely tried every medical solution and humbly comes to the “miracle worker”. The other is an outcast due to a medical condition that leaves her trying to sneak up behind Jesus just to touch his garment. Desperate. Out of options. At the end of their rope!
Perhaps not in their exact circumstances, but you may feel the same way. Weak, frayed, hopeless, and alone! Jesus referred to this in the Beatitudes as being “poor in spirit”. Literally, “at the end of your rope”. When you are barely hanging on by a thread, look to Jesus.
Christ is the Healer and Provider. He can restore brokenness and put the pieces back together. We have the accounts of Jarius’ daughter and the woman with the issue of blood to remind us that Jesus sees the unclean and has power over all we can see or touch.
Jesus alone has the power to heal, restore, and make new. The question is not in His ability but in our faith in Him. Will you trust Him today for healing, restoration, and life?
