Beauty in the Quiet

Radio waves are all around us. You can’t see them, but through the air, frequencies carry and emit messages.  Right now, there is country music, talk radio, the latest weather, rock and roll, and worship music in the waves. For you to experience the message, you are required to intentionally listen by tuning in a radio to the desired frequency.  Then, and only then, are you able to enjoy the experience.

For the past few months, we have deliberately journeyed through a study of prayer, with the desire to better practice this healthy habit and become a people of prayer. Much of what we have learned has pushed us to speak more clearly, ask more specifically, and pray more boldly. What a journey it has been.

However, 1 Samuel 3:1-10 is just one example of the importance of our quietness and intentional listening in prayer.  If prayer is communicating with God, then we just acknowledge that communication is two ways. I pray you are getting better at speaking with adoration and thanksgiving.  But are you also working to speak less and listen more?

With all the noise and distractions around us, there is beauty in the quietness. Be alone with God. Be still. Be quiet.  Open your eyes and ears to see Him at work around you.  Trust the Spirit to discern in you what is from Him versus what is a distraction.  Thankfully, His Word is the litmus that helps us filter and screen what messages are from Him.

I pray you will sit in the quiet and lean into the whisper that He speaks!
