Christmas Eve: A Family Gathering
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
While that is the title for a song, it is also the sentiment of many at Christmas. Perhaps that is due to the parties and presents, but it also is because we make much of Jesus at Christmas time. Certainly, we should make much of him all the time, and let us allow this season to give us an opportunity to point others to Jesus and celebrate our King.
Jesus came to this earth as a baby on a rescue mission for humanity so that we might be made right with God and experience hope and peace. He came to earth for you, so that the wrath of God you deserve would be paid by His blood, and so you can be part of God’s family.
We are excited to celebrate the birth of King Jesus with you. We have decided not to have an in-person service this year. Instead, we are going to have a Happy Birthday celebration streaming on Christmas Eve at 6:00 p.m.
As part of the celebration, we have prepared some Christmas Eve celebration kits for you. Pick up a kit for your family and use the items inside to follow along with the service. Kits are available in the Welcome Center on Sundays or in the Church Office during the week. Please read these instructions so that you and your family can be ready to join us for our Christmas Eve service.
Prepare
Before Christmas Eve, you will need to gather your supplies or simply pick up your prepared kit. You can pick up your kit on any of our Sunday in-person worship experiences, or in the church office during our normal hours. Please note that we do close the office a few days before Christmas.
Items for the celebration included in the kit (click the links for printable versions):
- Birthday candle
- Ceremony candles (for candlelight Silent Night singing)
- Birthday cake recipe (or use your own recipe or buy from your favorite bakery)
- Jesse Tree Devotion for December 24th
- Party Favors for your birthday celebration
- Merry Christmas artwork
- Kids Christmas Craft
Participate
We desire that this truly be an experience and not simply you and your family watching something online. Be sure to gather your family and connect your streaming device before 6:00 p.m.
The night will involve singing, responsive reading, a candlelight experience, and a birthday party celebration for Jesus.
Have all of your supplies gathered and even designate who will do the family reading time. Don’t forget a lighter or a match to start our candlelight experience.
Go ahead and have your cake (or cupcake!) ready before 6:00 p.m. because the party will begin immediately following the conclusion of our worship time together.
I also would be one who would say that this is the most wonderful time of the year. I look forward to spending extra time with my family. I must admit, and I also look forward to the gifts. Most importantly, I look forward to the opportunity to worship Jesus with you and point others to him.
In Christ,
Ricky
