Church For Sale
A few weeks ago Hilary and I were enjoying vacation at the beach. One evening, while driving back from dinner, we passed an old church with a sign that this church building is now nothing more than overflow parking for a nearby attraction. How sad!
What happened that a once thriving church is not vacant and nothing more than a parking lot for a local business? Could this happen to any church? If so, how?
I love the local church and specifically love our church. We are blessed and God is pouring out favor on us. But like the church in Ephesus which was once thriving and received affirmation from Paul in Acts 20, we could lose our first love and be warned as by John in Revelation 2 that God could remove His hand if we lose focus on the cross.
We have one mission, to preach Christ crucified to a lost world. When we lose sight of this mission we risk becoming self absorbed by good things and failing to fixate on the best thing. May King Jesus be the center of our mission, our life, and our church.
