Divine Interruptions
It is dinner time on Christmas, and the family is sitting down to share a memorable meal. Just as you pray and start passing dishes, there is a knock on the door. If you greet an unexpected visitor, what do you do in that moment of surprise? Do you tell them to come back later? Do you close the door in their face? Do you invite them in?
This happened at a holiday meal with my family. A place setting was prepared without hesitation, and an extra chair was pulled up. In fact, this guest was an extended family member who dropped by to surprise us. The unexpected may have spiraled for some since it wasn’t in “the plan.” Others will easily roll with the punches. Rather than react to this scenario based on personalities, see it from a different lens.
It may not be a surprise knock at dinner, but every day, we have unexpected moments in our lives that could be an opportunity to share Jesus, show love, or speak truth. Often dubbed “divine appointments,” these interruptions can prove to be moments for us to listen to the Spirit and have an eternal impact or be impacted for eternity.
Rather than working to control every detail, leave some margin and space in your day and rhythms to seize these moments and share in God’s redemptive story that is still being written in your life and in those around you.
