Exclusive Title

I am a huge Atlanta Braves fan. Growing up in Atlanta and living through the early 90’s with Braves dominance, it is undeniable that a sense of loyalty has developed in me that will never fade. This past season, Braves Country witnessed another milestone as Ronald Acuna Jr. reached an unprecedented milestone. He became the first player to accumulate 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases in a single season. He will likely hold this exclusive membership by himself for a long time. He literally wrote his name in the record books.

Not to compare Acuna to a place of deity, but this analogy helps us understand what it may look like to have a name in an exclusive place. Let’s build off that analogy to a truly exclusive club that only Christ is worthy to fill. Only Christ is able to pay the ultimate price for our sins through the willing sacrifice of His pure blood. His death, burial, and resurrection proved His power over death and demonstrated that He has the name of “Lord.”

That word is tossed around casually, but we must pause and marinate in its depth of meaning. To say that Jesus is Lord certainly translates to ownership and authority. We must consider our submission to give Him control over all areas of our lives. We must bend our knees and bow our hearts to His power.

We must also accept that “Jesus is Lord” means more than His authority. “Lord” in the Greek language is synonymous with the Hebrew name for “Yahweh.” Literally when we say that “Jesus is Lord,” we are acknowledging that He is God. He is the One who creates and sustains. Apart from Him, we are nothing, and we have nothing.

Whether you confess Him as Lord or not, Jesus is Lord. Will you bow your heart and knee to confess Him today? Romans 10:9-10 reminds us that, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
