Future Investments
As a high school student, I was blessed with a teacher and principal who cared enough to invest in me. They cared more about my grades and study habits. Instead they went out of their way to challenge my faith and even asked hard questions about my conduct to ensure that I was appropriately applying Scripture to my everyday life. I will forever be grateful for men and women like: Jay Harlan, Tony Underwood, Mike Hall, Gail Coffee, and Sandra Cannon.
Now as an adult with kids, I highly value the faith family that I am a part of and recognize the importance of other adults, besides my wife and I, who invest in the faith development of my kids. Even more so, we have intentionally put our kids in environments where they are around people who we want to invest in them. This intentional disciple making strategy recognizes the importance of a church who is committed to next generation ministry.
I am so grateful for Calvary Baptist Church and its evidence for quality ministry to kids and teens. Certainly we have room for growth and improvement, and I am eternally grateful to our faith family who is committed with us to bring up our children to pursue Christ.
As we read the challenge of Psalm 78, we see the importance of a nation and a church who commits to pass along the power of the Gospel to future generations. This cannot be a haphazard exercise, but must be one of faithful persistence and culture infusion of grace.
As parents, I challenge you today to commit to be authentic in your conversations with kids and elevate the Word of God in everyday situations. As a church, we must continue to invest and serve in an effort to partner with one another in the nurturing of the next generation entrusted to us for the sake of the Gospel.
Who knows, there may be a kid in our church who one day reflects back on their faith journey and expresses gratefulness to you for the prayer and commitment made to watch them grow in Christ. The grace of God is an invaluable gift that must be reinvested in the next generation.
