A few years back, my wife and I were able to enjoy a morning walk through the Muir Woods in Northern California. We were in awe of God’s creation and the quietness of the forest caught us by surprise. With all the noise that floods our ears and minds, it was refreshing to experience the peaceful morning walk.
Our trip took a fresh perspective when we encountered a park ranger. Granted the quietness and solitude faded, but we were fascinated to learn more about the symbiotic relationships within the forest and the age of the massive trunks in our view.
Her presentation revealed that Muir Woods is one of the few “virgin, un-cut” forests left in the world. She went on to say that the forest dated about 8,000 years. Quickly she amended her presentation to say that “of course the earth is much older, but…”. I respectfully listened and walked about thanking God for a physical and living reminder on this planet that points to the true age of the earth.
While humans have searched for thousands of years to unlock the age of the earth using carbon dating, geology, archaeology, and more; we can find simple clues to help us understand how and when God made the world.
He truly spoke the world into existence out of nothing. Comparing the Genesis account to what we also learn in Hebrews 11:3, we admire the power of creator God and experience the majesty of His display every day. Through good study of Scripture and sound science we can reach supporting evidence that the world is not millions of years old.
Faith and meet science and lead us to stand in awe of God as creator. Furthermore, He continues to create new life today as those made in His image can be made new by His power. I realize some who read this may resist the basic premise. I encourage you to continue reading and studying more as we together strive to walk in His steps.
