Hebrews 11:23-28 – Second Wind Week 9

October 17, 2021
Pastor Alan Smith

Sermon Notes

I. Family of Faith

Hebrews 11:23
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

II. Identity of Faith

Hebrews 11:24-26
By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

III. Enduring Faith

Hebrews 11:27
By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.

IV. Life of Faith

Hebrews 11:28
By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.

Living a life of faith will leave a legacy of faith.

Next Steps

  • I admit my sin and turn to God by faith in Jesus’ shed blood.
  • I commit to live an example of second wind faith for my kids and grandkids.
  • I choose to rest my identity in who God has called me to be rather than in what fear or culture tells me.

Deep Dive

  1. Read Matthew 6:33 and share how you practically seek Jesus first every day. What changes can you make to do this more effectively?
  2. Read Hebrews 12:14 and discuss how pursuing Christ impacts intimacy with Him and with others.
  3. Read Romans 5:12-21 and discuss how Christ’s righteousness changes who we are.

Springboard

  1. Describe a time when God used a friend or family member to meet a need when you were in crisis.
  2. How has diet and exercise affect your stress? What changes should you make today?
  3. Read Hebrews 11:29-31 and discuss how the Israelites demonstrated trust in God as they fled Egypt.
