The devastation in Houston, Texas from Hurricane Harvey is heartbreaking. We all have seen the images and video of what the storm has done to the communities of Texas, from Corpus Christi to Houston and all the communities in between. The heart of Jesus’ followers is pulled to respond to heal hurts and meet needs, and Calvary is driven with this passion.
The Georgia Baptist Mission Board Disaster Relief team is poised to provide assistance, resources, and manpower to help the people of Texas. And we can be involved.
Step One – Pray
We believe that God is good! Even in the midst of the storm, God is Good. So call upon the Lord to work in the lives of those affected by this storm. Pray that hearts will come to know Jesus because of the work of His body during the rescue and rebuilding of communities. Pray that believers will be a light that shines brightly.
Step Two – Give
The GBMB has made it possible for people to make financial donations to support the relief efforts. They will take 100% of all donations to support the relief effort. They have established an online giving portal, so consider making a donation today.
Step Three – Participate
Build and Donate Buckets of Care
One way you can help is to put together a Bucket of Care. Each bucket contains the essential items and first aid for homeowners and others that are performing “mud-outs”, cleaning out homes following flooding. Go to www.gbcdisasterrelief.org for a video and information. Click bucket ingredients and mud out instructions for PDF files. The GBMB is working on building collection locations for the Buckets of Care. Once those are announced we will provide those location drop off areas.
Be A Credentialed Volunteers!
The relief team is in need for credentialed volunteers! In order to have access to clean up and serve the community, there is a need for volunteers who have been trained. You can attend our upcoming DR Orientation on September 16 at New Providence Baptist in Forsyth, Georgia. Information and registration can be found at gbcdisasterrelief.org.
