I Couldn’t Help Myself!

Don’t look at the bottom of the page…Don’t do it!

It’s hard to not look. When I was a child there were things that I had no interest in, places I had no interest in going. And then my mom would say, “Don’t look in the closet!” Or “Don’t go past the stop sign!” Or “Don’t touch that cake!”

And all of a sudden, I had to check out what was in the closet. I would figure out every way I could to sneak into that closet.

I realized that road past the stop sign was perfect for bike riding. It was smoother than the road I was on. It had the perfect slope. I had to go!

The cake looked so good. I just needed to drag my finger around the edge of the plate to get just little of that icing. I would wait until the kitchen was clear, and swipe away. I had to have that cake!

It is amazing to me how our mind becomes consumed with the things we are forbidden. When we are told “No,” it’s like our bodies yell back, “Oh Yeah! Watch me!”

Help From Myself

In Romans, Paul addresses this idea and helps us understand that it is the byproduct of sin. When our sinful minds here these commands or prohibitions, it spawns a military campaign to compel us to engage. To do the thing we ought not to do.

But when God came and dwelt among us, Jesus provided a solution to this problem. He condemned sin and the power it has and made it possible for you and I to live free from it’s bondage.

We have the Spirit of God that dwells in us and gives us life. We have a life that is no longer bound to the sinful lust and desires. Thanks to Emmanuel, we have the power of God making us alive in Christ.

Rejoice! The spirit of flesh is overcome by the power of the Spirit that gives us new mind and life.
