Ministry in Community
At Calvary, we believe that following Jesus isn’t a passive lifestyle—it’s a sent life. In Mark 6:7–13, Jesus sends out the Twelve on their first mission trip. This isn’t just a historical moment—it’s a model for how we are called to live today.
Jesus sends His disciples in pairs, not only for safety but for spiritual accountability. Ministry was never meant to be a solo endeavor. Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us, “Two are better than one.” Whether in global missions or local outreach, we go further when we go together.
What’s striking is how little Jesus tells them to bring—no bag, no money, no extra clothes. Why? Because the mission was to stretch their faith, not their wallets. They had to trust God to provide everything. That same principle challenges us today. Are we more dependent on our resources than on the One who sends us?
Jesus also prepares them for rejection. That’s tough. But He doesn’t tell them to argue or linger—just to shake off the dust and move forward. It’s a humbling reminder that we’re responsible for faithfulness, not results. And we can’t take rejection personally when people reject the message of Jesus. He was rejected too (John 1:11).
Lastly, the disciples’ message was simple but powerful: repent. They didn’t water it down. Repentance is more than sorrow—it’s a total turnaround. It’s like a military “about face”—a reorientation of life toward God. This call to repentance remains central to our message today. It’s not about guilt-tripping—it’s about inviting people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
As a church, we are sent people. We’re sent to proclaim the truth, serve with compassion, and represent Jesus in a world desperate for hope. Let’s be faithful ambassadors—relying on His power, proclaiming His message, and trusting Him with the results.
