Nature Reflects God’s Faithfulness
Summer rain, surprising rainbows, colorful sunsets, blossoms of spring, the birth of a child, the orbit of the planets, and more all point to the display of God’s power revealed through everyday miracles. Each of these everyday encounters are outstanding examples of God’s glory and power. Each moment is a picture of God’s provision and a challenge for us to maintain a humble perspective.
Look at the flowers
Matthew 6:28-33 are simple yet challenging words from Christ to consider the flowers and the birds as examples of God’s faithfulness. If He can tell the sun when to rise and set, the birds when to sing, and the flowers when to bloom; then surely He can take care of us. Nature is so intricately interwoven by God’s design to sustain life and give praise to the Creator. We cannot help but notice these everyday miracles, yet often we let them pass by without slowing down to praise the Lord.
Does pride get in the way?
Is it our pride that impacts our ability to see God at work all around us? I reflect on the impact of Esther 6. King Xerxes could not sleep. The text informs us that it was God that kept him awake. This divine intervention triggered the turning point in the Esther story. Haman was blinded by pride that ultimately led to his downfall. How many times am I not able to sleep and perhaps God is trying to get my attention? How often am I like Haman that my pride blinds my ability to see and hear God at work?
Seek first the Kingdom
Perhaps if we took time to smell the roses, photograph the sunset, or sit and listen to the rain we would be more apt to demonstrate humility to see God at work. Is it pride and our ego that drives us at such a rapid pace that we can’t breathe? We may call it drive and determination but could it be pride?
Perhaps this post is more of an opportunity to muse and process what may move my thoughts. I pray I am moved with humility rather than pride. If looking out the window will help me think more holistically, then I will practice that discipline.
