Purpose: 

 The purpose of this trip is to come alongside our ministry partner, New City Church, and assist in one of their community outreach opportunities. New City and the team have offered a free, community-wide Carnival in Long Island City for several years. Nothing is free in New York, so many planned to attend when they heard of this opportunity. Every year, between  3,000 and 6,000 people participate in the carnival. It’s great to see the children having fun, getting their faces painted, playing on the playground, and winning candy prizes at the different booths. But what was more exciting was engaging with the parents. They were in awe that we would provide all of this for free and for the community. We have multiple conversations with parents, connecting them to New City Church and offering the reason we were there to share the love of Jesus with them. A simple act of kindness can lead someone to Christ and change their destiny. Historically, people began to engage with the church because of the carnival. The church sees new visitors every Sunday for 6-8 months because of the carnival. How amazing is that? What a fantastic difference that can make!

Travel:

We will leave the church parking lot towards the airport as a team. We will leave Columbus with enough time for at least 2 hours to get through security. We will fly from Atlanta to New York City. Once we arrive at Laguardia Airport, we will take an Uber to check into the hotel. While in New York, we will utilize the subway system as the primary mode of transportation. 

Lodging:

 Our hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn Long Island City, New York. New City Church is in Long Island City, and it is helpful to stay close to where we will work. Click here for the hotel website.

A state-issued ID is required for air travel.
