Operation Christmas Child Volunteers Needed

Operation Christmas Child is a mission project Calvary participates in annually from September to November. OCC sends shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to children in need around the world. Each child who receives a shoebox also hears the Gospel. Each child also receives a booklet called “The Greatest Gift,” which is a tangible presentation of the Gospel in their own language that they can share with friends and family.

Calvary members participate in OCC in several different ways: donating supplies for the Packing Party, donating money for supplies and shipping, and turning in filled shoeboxes. We are also in great need of volunteers to fill several positions within this ministry. We would love to have you serve with us.

Jobs that are completed have a strikethrough.

Unpacking/Sorting Amazon Deliveries

Come to the church to our OCC storage area and open all the Amazon deliveries. Count, sort, and put away items. This job will need to take place every couple of weeks. Days and hours are flexible. Let us know your availability.

OCC Table in Welcome Center

We need a volunteer to stand at the OCC table and answer simple questions about OCC, hand out boxes, and collect donated items or filled boxes. You would need to be there 15 minutes before the service starts and 10 minutes after the service ends. You do not have to do both services nor serve every week. Let us know in the paragraph section of the sign-up what your availability would be.

Inventory Set-Up

Come help set up items for Inventory Bundling. For example, laying out boxes of crayons, pencil bundles, scissors, etc., on tables for our volunteers who will be bundling. Great activity for someone who can’t make the Inventory Bundling or the Packing Party. This is a physical job and requires lifting and twisting, but not necessarily heavy items.

Folding Boxes

Come to the church and fold the OCC shoeboxes and store them for use. Join us in Hightower Hall on Monday, November 10th, anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to fold boxes. If any boxes are left to fold and label, we will meet again in Hightower, and we will fold again on Tuesday, the 11th, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Packing Party Inventory Bundling

October 28th – 30th, we will bundle thousands of school supplies for the Packing Party. We need lots of hands for this project. Children ten years old and up are welcome to help! We will be in the Studio for this project from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., or whenever the jobs are done.

The Studio is located at the back of the Worship Center near the Hub. Park in the parking lot between the Hub and the stairs leading to Hightower Hall and follow the sidewalk toward Hightower Hall. About halfway up, take the sidewalk to the left that leads to the glass-enclosed stairway. The Studio door is there under a small awning.

Packing Party Set-Up – Friday, November 14 at 6:00 p.m.

We’ll be preparing for our Packing Party by moving supplies and setting up the Cafeteria on Friday evening. We’re looking for 6–8 strong, able-bodied volunteers to help move tables, boxes, and other materials from Hightower Hall to the Cafeteria.

If you can lend a hand, please arrive at 6:00 p.m. Your help will make Saturday’s Packing Party run smoothly and efficiently. Due to the nature of this task, we’re asking for adult volunteers only.

Packing Party: Specific Roles Needed

We need some specific help at the Packing Party on November 15th. These roles are:

  • Table Guides: Six volunteers are needed to man a single table line to restock items and help with WOW item distribution.
  • Box Stackers: 1-2 volunteers are needed to check labels and stack filled boxes.

If you would like to volunteer or if you have additional questions, please contact Laura Atterbury.
