Operation Christmas Child is a mission project Calvary participates in annually from September to November. OCC sends shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to children in need around the world. Each child who receives a shoebox also hears the Gospel. Each child also receives a booklet called “The Greatest Gift,” which is a tangible presentation of the Gospel in their own language they can share with friends and family.
Calvary members participate in OCC in a number of different ways: donating supplies for the Packing Party, donating money for supplies and shipping, and turning in filled shoeboxes. We are also in great need of volunteers to fill several positions within this ministry. We would love to have you serve with us. Take a look at the ways you can serve with Operation Christmas Child, then fill out the form below to let us know what area(s) interest you.
Unpacking/Sorting Amazon Deliveries
Come to the church to our OCC storage area and open all the Amazon deliveries. Count, sort, and put away items. This job will need to take place every couple of weeks. Days and hours are flexible. Let us know your availability.
OCC Table in Welcome Center
We need a volunteer to stand at the OCC table and answer simple questions about OCC, hand out boxes, and collect donated items or filled boxes. You would need to be there 15 minutes before the service starts and 10 minutes after the service ends. You do not have to do both services nor serve every week. let us know in the paragraph section of the sign-up for what your availability would be.
Inventory Set-Up
Come help set up items for Inventory Bundling. For example, laying out boxes of crayons, pencil bundles, scissors, etc., on tables for our volunteers who will be bundling. Great activity for someone who can’t make the Inventory Bundling or the Packing Party. This is a physical job and requires lifting and twisting, but not necessarily heavy items.
Folding Boxes
Come to the church and fold the OCC shoeboxes and store them for use. We will have more folding sessions in October. Check back for dates and times.
Packing Party Inventory Bundling
In late October, we will bundle thousands of items, such as school supplies and hygiene items, for the Packing Party. We need lots of hands for this project! Children are welcome to help!
Packing Party Set Up
The OCC Packing Party is on Saturday, November 4th. Beginning Thursday, November 2nd at 8:30 a.m., we unpack all of the items we’ve collected for the party and begin sorting them on tables. It takes all day Thursday and Friday, November 3rd, to set up the party. You don’t have to commit to the whole time, but at least two hours of serving is most helpful. Lots of hands are needed to accomplish this preparation. However, due to the work environment of this particular task, we are unable to allow children to be present.
Packing Party: Specific Roles Needed
We need some specific help at the Packing Party on November 4th. These roles are:
- Box Checker: Man a table and quickly check each packed box to ensure they have all the items needed. (3-4 volunteers needed)
- Guide: Walk around and be available to help anyone who may have questions about packing. (1-2 volunteers needed)
- Restockers: We can’t fit everything on the tables at once. This volunteer would keep an eye on each table and restock items as needed. (1-2 volunteers needed)
- Box Runner: Taking boxes to stack once the box checkers are finished with them. (1-2 volunteers needed)
