Routines That Build Bridges

Do you value routine? What about your routine is healthy? What about your routine needs to change? When we assess our routine, we most often think about sleep, diet, exercise, work, fun, and Bible study. These rhythms are critical for health, balance, and sustainable rhythms. To be healthy, we should evaluate our schedule and seek to honor Sabbath rhythms.

In addition to all this, we must consider how our routine positions us to build a healthy biblical community.  We are designed for relationships and God invites us into His family for true fellowship and mission. We read Acts 2 and see the beauty of sharing meals, meeting needs, and corporate worship. This truly is community in the truest sense.

Sadly, many believers so strive to walk in community and seek the Lord it can lead to a routine that builds walls to protect our testimony, and we end up isolating ourselves from non-believers who desperately need to experience the joy of a faith family. Rather than building walls, we need to evaluate our weekly routine and find ways to intentionally build bridges.

Jesus set a beautiful example in Mark 2:13-17 of identifying Levi and celebrating his new life with Jesus while entering his home and sharing a meal with outcasts and “sinners” who rejected the religion of the day. How can you create regular touchpoints with groups of people that may be missing the most important relationship and where you can carry hope? Perhaps a tennis club, local choir, volunteer organization, or any hobby you enjoy. Let’s pray about how we can be more intentional in building bridges to carry hope to the world.
