Shoe Drive to Provide Shoes for Students Returning to School
COLUMBUS, GA (August 2020) As students are preparing to return to the classroom this year, Calvary Baptist Church has launched a shoe drive to provide shoes to students for school-age children (K3 – 12th grade).
Calvary church member Kelly Reynolds sees the shoe drive as a way to love our neighbor and follow the example of Jesus. “We believe that the Bible has commanded us to love our neighbors and we love our neighbors because Jesus loves them,” said Reynolds. “This shoe drive is a practical way to redistribute resources to families in our community and provide a confidence boost to children who need a newer pair of shoes.”
The church has been collecting shoes through the month of July and has collected over 400 pairs of shoes.
Lead Pastor Ricky Smith is encouraged and grateful to serve the Chattahoochee Valley. “We are grateful for continued opportunities to serve our community by meeting tangible needs,” said Smith. “We pray that demonstrations of care, like the giving of shoes, will open doors for conversations where people can experience the hope that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Students are invited to pick out their shoes on Saturday, August 8 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy. The school is located at 1400 1st Avenue in Columbus.
