Do you enjoy watching the news? Many don’t because it is often filled with negativity. However, I’ve watched the news more in the past two months than in the past several years. To help many take a break from the dark and gloomy news, actor John Krasinski created a pop-up show called “Some Good News.” This fun and light commentary on culture has highlighted stories of hope in darkness, and celebration in all circumstances.
This show is a helpful reminder to maintain a positive attitude and to focus on the good rather than dwell on the evil. Paul offers similar words in Ephesians 4:25-32. Following several verses that contain warnings of sin, he contrasts each of them with focusing words on truth, sharing, kindness, and forgiveness.
God has called us out of darkness and into light (1 Peter 2:9). This reality should re-frame our view of others and drive us to be forged as the people of God to walk in unity and unison for the sake of truth, in the security of the Spirit, and for the cause of Christ.
Resting in the reality of Who has rescued us and Whose we are, should lead us to live in a way that reflects His glory to the world and in our relationships. How we love, express kindness, speak to others, resolve anger, and offer forgiveness are tangible ways to uphold truth and carry hope to the world.
Who knows, our commitment to live as God leads us may even end up as a story of love featured on the news.
