The ancient church in Smyrna was faithful in persecution. Refusing to acknowledge Caesar as god they had difficulty trading, buying, selling and thus were poor. Their commitment to follow Jesus would mean rejection from family and from friends. Yet, they were faithful with conviction to God and doctrine.
