What We Absorb

If our minds are like sponges, it suggests that our actions and attitudes reflect what we absorb. In other words, our input impacts our output. Garbage in equals garbage out. Does that phrase sound familiar? You likely heard it as a child or have repeated it to your children. The truth is this principle is not exclusive to children; it also applies to adults. If I am honest, what I consume impacts my actions every day!

This truth is reinforced in Romans 12:1-2 and Philippians 2:5-6. We are challenged to not conform to the world’s pattern but to be transformed by Christ. Specifically, Paul urges that the attitude of Christ become our attitude. Moreover, the ancient concept of discipleship required that the disciple become just like the Teacher.

Jesus serves as our perfect example. May we consume our thoughts with His attitude and actions. If we did, our behavior would certainly be different. Consider today our discipline and rhythm to seek the Lord, study Scripture, and model Christ in all relationships. This may require saying no to some things so that we can say yes to better things!
