You Gotta Have Courage
What comes to mind when you hear the word, “courage”? Maybe you immediately start hearing the word in the iconic accent and intonation of the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz. He certainly was aware of his inadequacies and desire to walk with more confidence rather than being controlled by fear. Perhaps you relate more to this fictional character than you may want to admit.

Can I Justify Passivity?
It is very easy for us to justify why we should not speak up, step out, or engage. Often fear prevents us for being involved as we should be. This passive default for many prevents us from witnessing the supernatural work of God around us. Imagine how the story of Esther would be different if she did not heed the challenge of her cousin, Mordecai. Rather than giving in to fear, she rejected passivity and sought the Lord through prayer and fasting. Following this healthy step of humility she looked fear in the face and courageously spoke up for her people.
Should I Speak Out?
What injustice do you see that God has positioned you to speak out and stand up for? There is evil all around us. It is overwhelming and you can’t fix every problem, but perhaps you can do for one person or one situation what you wish you could do for every person and every situation. Speaking out needs to be more than your own “op-ed” on social media. There is plenty of white noise there. More importantly who in your world can you personally engage with, listen too, and be the representation of Christ’s love too?
