Honoring Family
I hope moms reading this had a Happy Mother’s Day. None of us would be here today without moms. As you have looked for ways to honor or remember your mom this weekend, I pray you have been reminded of the value of family and the importance of those relationships in our lives. Truth be told, friends have come and gone in my life, but family has been the constant. I pray that is true for you as well.
As much as I love my mother, I am more grateful she is my sister in Christ. My mother led me to Christ back when I was an eight-year-old boy. That day was filled with tearful joy as we connected even deeper. You see, a connection between two people as brothers and sisters in Christ is way more significant than a bloodline connection.
In essence, this is what Jesus was emphasizing in Mark 3:31-35. He loved his family and honored His mother, so much so that He made sure she was taken care of when He was dying on the cross. Jesus also demonstrated a Kingdom advancing mindset that God is calling people into relationship with Himself and to experience a faith community. This is part of our hardwiring that we learn all the way back in Genesis 1-3.
Today, will you take time to honor your earthly family? Will you also strive to do the will of God and share His love with all we see so that everyone can experience the joy of being in God’s heavenly family?
