Trick or Treat

When I was out looking for pumpkins, I realized that there are a lot of different types of pumpkins. There are pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. They also come in different colors. There are green ones and red ones and yellow ones and white ones and brown ones, and of course, orange ones. If you cut open a few pumpkins, you’ll find out something else; they’re filled with some pretty yucky, gross stuff.

Pumpkins remind me of people. People come in different shapes, different sizes and different colors. And, we all are filled with yuck on the inside — sin.

The Yuck of Life

We all have sin within us, and do you know what that sin does? It separates us from God. God, the creator of the universe, the creator of everything, the creator of the sky, the creator of the oceans and everything that exists, is separated from me and you because of sin.

But, he has a plan. He has a plan for sin, and we find that plan in the 66 books of the Bible, our instruction manual. The Bible gives us some really good news about his son, Jesus Christ.

A New Life

Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life. He had no yuck in him. He had no sin in him. He lived a perfect life, and he spent his years on this earth teaching us about how much his father loves us. He loves you, and he wants to have a forever relationship with me and you. He wants to have a friendship with you. He cares for you that much, and his son Jesus came to teach us about God.

When we have a relationship with Christ — when we accept him and believe in him — it changes us from the inside. We’re no longer a normal-looking little Pumpkinhead. It really changes us and gives us a new outlook on life. Jesus teaches us to love other people, to be different, to be compassionate, to care for others.

Jesus wants us to tell our friends the good news about him. You might even want to say, we glow and shine.

Would you like to have Jesus change your heart and get the yuck out of your heart? You can do that today. You have to believe that Jesus will forgive you of your sin and trust him. We do that with our words. Would you prayer this prayer?

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.
I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.
Guide my life, and help me to do your will.
In your name, amen.
