What’s the Black Stuff?
Imagine you are walking through the woods around the Chattahoochee Valley and as you stumble over a rock, something grabs your attention. You begin to dig in the dirt, tossing aside the rocks and you find some black sludge. It looks and feels like oil, but how could there be oil in this part of the country. As you look at the black liquid, you realize that the value of this property is worth more than you could earn in a 100 lifetimes.
All In
You rush home to begin doing whatever it takes to buy that piece of land. You know the box on that land is worth more than everything you own. You put your house on the market, you sell your cars, your furniture, your clothes. Everything that has value to you goes up for sell. You are ALL IN!
Your family and friends think your crazy. They think you’ve gone to far. They try to talk you out of making this terrible decision. Why would you even think about selling everything? What are you going to live on?
They don’t understand. They don’t get it. They don’t know the value of the land you plan to buy.
The Christian Life
The Christian life is like this piece of land. The value of the Gospel is more precious than anything you could earn in 100 lifetimes. And when we hear the Gospel, we are called to risk it all. To give up everything to gain the promise of the Gospel. To be a Christian, means you are a Risk Taker. You are willing to risk everything this world has to offer for the Gospel. You will risk your property, your wealth, your family, or even your life for the sake of Gospel. This is what it means to be a Risk Taker.
The Call
Did you know that Jesus loves you? He loves you so much that he was willing to leave Heaven, be born as human on earth, and die for your sin.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Without Jesus, we do not have eternal life. We perish. When we die, we are eternally separated from Jesus. But Jesus wants every person to come to him and live with him forever. He loves you!
We Are Sinners
The fact of the matter is, we are all sinners. From the day we were conceived, we had a desire to sin. It is our nature to do wrong. It is our nature to go against the things of Jesus. Even our ‘good’ is bad when compared to Jesus.
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Since we all have a sin nature, we all deserve the same consequence. Death! Death is the payment for having a sin nature. And since you were born with a sin nature, your payment is death, eternal separation from God.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death
God Sends Jesus
Since we are all born in sin, we cannot do enough good to make ourselves right with God. Because of God’s love and desire to have fellowship with his creation, he sent Jesus.
Romans 5:8 – but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
By accepting the payment for sin, death, Jesus made it possible for you to have fellowship with God. And after three days in the grave, Jesus came back to life. This resurrection put an end to death because of sin. His death and resurrection make it possible for us to have eternal life with God.
Now It’s Your Turn
We can’t earn salvation; we are saved by God’s grace when we have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. All you have to do is believe you are a sinner, that Christ died for your sins, and ask His forgiveness. Then turn from your sins—that’s called repentance. Jesus Christ knows you and loves you. What matters to Him is the attitude of your heart, your honesty. We suggest praying the following prayer to accept Christ as your Savior:
“Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.
I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.
Guide my life and help me to do your will.
In your name, amen.”
Now What?
