October 31, 2021
Pastor Alan Smith

Sermon Notes

God proves His faithfulness generation after generation

Hebrews 11:32-34
And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

1. Fantastically flawed people with extraordinary faith

2. Weaknesses are real but are not an excuse

Your weakness is not a handicap to God’s power in your life

Next Steps

  • Today I put my faith and hope in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
  • Circumstances right now are testing my faith. Pray for me to have faith that endures.
  • I commit this week to share my story of faith with someone else.

Deep Dive

  1. Look deeper into the lives of the OT heroes listed in verse 32. What kinds of victories did they experience? In what ways did each of them have failures?
  2. Read Romans 8:37-39. How does this passage help you understand God’s love towards you in spite of your sin?
  3. In what ways can your faithfulness to God be a conduit of hope to others?

Springboard

  1. Who are some examples of people who have demonstrated what Christian faith and life should be? Why?
  2. Which “hero” of faith in Hebrews 11 is your favorite and why?
  3. Read 1 John 4:19 and discuss how Jesus should motivate us to love well.
